However, drastic situation entails drastic action, such is the necessity that new National Team Manager, Eric Chelle is considering a number of tactical plans especially in the attacking department as he intends using Sadiq Umar as a BOX STRIKER

Who and What is a Box Striker in Football?

A box striker's primary focus is operating within and around the 18-yard box, relying on Instinct, Positioning, and Movement to score goals. Unlike a box-to-box striker who is actively involved in the build up and contributes to both attack and defense ans covers a large areas of the pitch, a BOX STRIKER prioritizes staying central and exploiting goal-scoring opportunities because he isn't saddled with Defensive Responsibility or cover ground for Others.

Most times, a BOX STRIKER plays with a backup striker who tracks back to help the midfield or create spaces by drifting wide, while the BOX STRIKER focuses more on positioning and finishing.

Meanwhile, the hallmark of a BOX STRIKER is the ability to read the game, anticipate passes, and stay in goal-scoring positions because technical skills like dribbling aren’t always necessary as the emphasis is on smart movement, quick decision-making, and clinical finishing.


So, does Sadiq Umar fit this new tactical ideas being mooted? Everyone acknowledges him as a proven but has he been tested in this new role? One salient thing is that; time isn't there for any unnecessary tinkering which could make or Mar our chances. However, this isn't nit taking anything away from Sadiq Umar who has scored over 40 goals in five seasons across clubs like Partizan, Almería, Real Sociedad, and Valencia. He has also demonstrated remarkable consistency despite injuries and remains one of Nigeria's Most reliable Strikers.
